my cousin and her husband just had an arguement over an air conditioner and now he wants to get a lawyer to take the kids away from her what does she do

She hires a lawyer. If an argument over an air conditioner results in a threat like this, it sounds like the marriage is over, and she needs to file for divorce and get temporary orders.
