Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Am I legally married

Am I legally married if the only documentation I have to prove it is when I added him to my insurance and we had to check the box that said living together as husband and wife? If so do I have any claim on property he bought while we were together? He recently sold acreage and I am living in the house he owns. Do I have any rights on these two things?

Re: Am I legally married

It's possible you are married -- a common law marriage.

How long have you not been living together?

With regards to the property, if could be classified as joint property unless you or he owned it prior to marriage, or if it were received as a gift or inheritance.

What county are you in? Do you an dhe have any children?

Re: Am I legally married

The answer is maybe.

Are you still living together or are you separated?

If you are separated, how long have you been separated?

If you are married, then most property will be joint property unless it was owned before the marriage, inherited or a gift.

I'm sure you thought it would be a simple question to answer but you have several hurdles to jump to be married.
