Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

My non-resident boyfriend of 2 yrs, who legally enter with a visitors visa was married in state of NC (in 2006, I think) , does not know if wife has filed for divorce. He lives in state of Texas and is afraid to inquire because when they separated in 2010 , they had an argument that he said lead to possible charges filed, that he claims are false. He did talk to her several months after their separation and she told him she had dropped the charges. How can he go about finding out if he has a warrant and if he is able to divorce her (if marriage is still active) without having to go back to NC? We have been talking about getting married and filing immigration staus, but need help on what steps I need to do before we go to an immigration lawyer. Thank You.

In many counties the information you are seeking is available online at the county's website - either through the courts, the sheriff's office or the local PD. If you cannot locate the information yourself, you can call a bondsman in the county - they have access to the outstanding warrants, and would be able to tell him if there is a warrant. If there is, then they will advise him of the particulars, and he can retain an attorney to get the problem resolved. He can also contact the District Clerk of the courts to learn if a divorce was ever filed in his name or her name. Good luck.
