Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

how to obtain full custody

We are all originally from California. I was never married to their father. We now reside in Texas. Do I have to go back to CA to obtain full custody of my children? What is the first step I need to take?

Re: how to obtain full custody

Are there any outstanding California court orders? If not, then being from California is not even relevant. Get a lawyer and file your petition in your county of residence. If you have outstanding CA orders, you may or may not be able to modify those orders in a Texas court -- but speak with a family lawyer in your county to review the orders.
