Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Releasing Parental Rights

My daughter is 7 years old, and her father has not seen her since she was 6 months old. I have received child support for 6 months of the past 7 years. Is there anything I can do to have his rights terminated? I have no way of locating him.

Re: Releasing Parental Rights

Failure to pay child support is a good reason to terminate parental rights. You can petition the court to terminate his parental rights, but most courts will not do that unless someone is ready to take over parental rights. Perhaps the courts think that someday the father will come into some money and pay what he owes. Good Luck.
