Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Remarriage

My boyfriend was divorced in Texas recently and we live in Louisianna. How long do we have to wait before we are married in Louisianna? What if we choose to marry in Texas is the waiting period the same?

Re: Remarriage

I don't know Louisiana law so I can't comment on it.

After a divorce is signed by the Judge, the State of Texas says to wait 30 days before remarriage.

Re: Remarriage

In Louisiana the divorce must be final (meaning all delays for re-hearings or appeals must have ended).

Since it is a Texas divorce you should wait until the waiting period is over in Texas. After all, if something happens so that he isn't really divorced (no matter what state the divorce is from) at the time of your wedding, then you're not legally married.

Re: Remarriage

I would suggest following the Texas time period and get married whereever you wish. The Texas period would hold in all states.
