Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Texas

My father is 61 years old. He has been working for cash for a very small concrete company. The small company has only a couple of employees and they all work for cash and the man running the company only schedules a couple of small jobs a month, so my father only works maybe a couple of days every two weeks and so far this is the only job he could find in his area. a while back my father got into some financial troubles due to the small company not scheduling enough jobs and my father was about to lose his pickup to the bank and the man who employed him offered to pay off the pickup and let my father make payments to him, only now he won't work my father steadily so my father can't pay him what he owes, now this man is threatening to repo the pickup if my father won't pay him but won't let him work to make any money. Is this at all legal?

Did anybody record a lien on the truck? It makes a difference. A lawyer should take a look at the PAPERWORK involved in the employer's loan to your father.
