Lawyer wants to motion to quit?

my nephew is facing a criminal mischief of the felony degree and in the 11th hour of the proceedings the attorney representing him wants to bow out after being paid, without merit. She states, she was a criminal lawyer but is not up to par with the current field. What can my nephew do? By the 11th hour the sentencing phase is to begin.
