Legal Question in Personal Injury in Texas

I need info regarding a lawsuit against the Ford Motor Company

I had a wreck August 2000, in a Ford Ranger that had Firestone tires and the driver airbag did not deploy, I was in the hospital for a month and sustained many injuries, my lawyer came by my house today (11-07-03) and said he was dropping my case because there was no injury to my face. My questions are, Do you think I still have a case against Ford? Can my lawyer decide on his own to drop my case? What does injury to my face have to do with my inability to work? Any input or answer would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Abel--name removed--

Something sounds fishy here. There is no requirement for facial injuries. However, lack of facial injuries might be evidence relating to air bag failure is that is disputed. The first thing that you need to do is to be certain that the case has actually been filed. You should have copies of court papers which give a case number. Call the clerk and verify that the case in fact was filed. Assuming that the case was filed, it is likely that the lawyer wants to withdraw because of the expenses of litigation which he will be facing. Although a lawyer general may withdraw from representing a client, he has no authority to dismiss the case without the client's permission. Also, he cannot ethically abandone you when it is too late for you to get ready for trial.

Explore this further with the lawyer. He may be trying to tell you that he does not think that you have a case that is economical to pursue, and just does not have the guts to say it.
