Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Texas

Real Estate Refinance and Divorce

I was awarded the house in the divorce in 2002. In March 2008, I refinanced the house into my name only. I learned in April that the tax office has no record of any title change and told are waiting on it to process things like ''homestead'' exemptions. (Texas)/ I contacted the title company and was told, ''Since you were awarded the house in a divorce, we didn't file a new deed with the court. Just send them your divorce.'' Do I need to push the title company to file that deed or not?

If I die, I don't want my kids to have to prove I owned the house.

It sounds like there is no deed. You need to get a certified copy of your divorce decree from the district clerk, then record it in the county records. This should put title into your name.
