Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Texas

I did not do a title search when I bought a half acre of land in Bastrop County in 1985. I would like to see the land, but there is another person listed on the title. I contacted the family of this person a few years back, and they say this person has never owned this property. The clerks at the courthouse will only say "contact an attorney". What is the quickest and cheapest way to resolve this matter.
