Your father either died with or without a Will. If he left a Will, you should be able to obtain a copy of it in order to determine if you are a beneficiary of his estate. If your father passed away without a Will, you are an heir and entitled to a share of his estate based upon the default rules of descent and distribution. Being entitled to something from your father's estate has nothing to do with your step-mother's estate, or her family.
