Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Texas

My mother passed away 3 years ago in Marshall, Texas. According to her will, my brother is the executor of her estate. We sold mom's house, and any other goods of value, with all proceeds going to "the estate of" bank account my brother set up. My brother lives in California and has refused all attempts to answer our questions (my 2 sisters and me) on the account of mom's estate. Is there a time limit to settle a person's estate? What options are open to me at this time without incurring legal fees?

Your option is to go to court and seek to force an accounting and distribution of the estate according to the Texas Probate Code. Texas has very strict rules about non attorneys appearing in probate court, representing any one other than themselves. You probably can't do this without hiring a lawyer.
