Legal Question in Technology Law in United Kingdom

Online Radio Question

Hi,

It is my understanding that if you run an online radio (based in UK) with American music, you are required to pay royalty fees to the RIAA (per/mo basis). Does this also apply to Bollywood music (Music from Indian movies)?

If not, does this mean I can play Bollywood music on a public radio station?

Thanks

Re: Online Radio Question

The RIAA only represents American artists and recording companies, so if your chosen music was written, performed and recorded in India you probably don't have to deal with them. But this does not mean that you are entitled to use the Bollywood music for free. Presumably India has its own copyright laws and its own mechanisms for enforcing them. India may even have its own equivalent of the RIAA. You should ask an Indian lawyer what you need to do.
