Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in United Kingdom

isnt this somehow wrong??

my mother recently passed. 47 yrs ago at age 16 my mom had a child that she was forced to give up for adoption.

they have never met nor have they ever tried to get in contact. My mom after a torturous illnes has left behind 5 children , 9 grandchildren and one very heartbroken husband of 47 yrs.

The adopted child somehow found out my mom passed and is trying to claim 50% of my moms estate. is this possible even though my father is very much alive and depends upon what little they still have? is she entitled to anything? please help

Yes, it is wrong. If your mother had a will then that's how the estate will be divided up. Lacking a will the intestate laws apply. Her heirs at law would be her parents, if they are still living, her children and her husband. Now each of the these could elect or decline to take their share of the estate.

As to the child she gave up for adoption, I don't think so. Once parental rights are terminated you mother ceased to be that child's mother. Your mother lost all rights to be involved in the child's life as well as the duty to support.
