Legal Question in Banking Law in Utah

We are a 501(c)3 agency staffed largely by volunteers. Volunteers sign our checks. What is their legal liability as check signers? Does it go beyond guaranteeing payment? That is, are they exposed legally for other financial issues unrelated to particular checks they might sign?
