Legal Question in Business Law in Utah

I run a small detail business and was called about detailing a boat for a guy named glenn. Glenn didnt own the boat when he called but was planning on buying it. Glenn lives in ID and the boat and I were both in UT. Anyway I agreed to go over the the owners house and detail the boat the night before glenn was to pick it up, with the understanding that after glenn picked up the boat he would call me to pay me and if it was not detailed to his satisfaction to go over the issues. Well Glenn picked the boat up and then would not answer my phone calls untill later that night. Then proceeded to claim that we did a lousy job. My question is to me this seems like a clear cut case of theft of services or theft by deception a criminal matter but am worried when I report this crime, that I will be told its a civil matter. Am I going to be told there is nothing the police can do and to file civil charges or can I also presue criminal charges as well? Thanks for your help in advance.

Your attorney question is posted in the wrong category. Repost in Criminal Law. . A review of all facts, documents, etc. is required, but it seems only civil on its face.. The police have more important things to deal with, like real criminals. This is not a simple bulletin board type question. Consult with an attorney in your area for specifics.

You can report it, but do not get your hopes up. Your best best would be to file a small claims action. Since he lives in Idaho you will have to file there. You can get his info from the seller. The seller may be able to verify the work you did. Ask both for the cost of your services and the cost of your time to go to Idaho.
