Legal Question in Technology Law in Utah

What is the punishment for stealing and decrypting data off a private server? I'm not in desperate need of legal service, I was just curious about the laws surrounding this sort of thing and don't really no where to look, there is not much information on this sort of thing besides looking at the thousands of complicated legal documents.

Jail and civil damages. There are both federal and state laws which prohibit hacking into other's computers and stealing information. There are serious criminal and civil penalties for doing so. If you believe you might be on the verge of having action taken against you, I would strongly recommend you seek legal counsel.
