Legal Question in Criminal Law in Utah

Post conviction restitution

I was in jail & then on probation in Utah & then moved out of state (interstate compact for probation). I was relased from probation but still owed some restitution. I tried to pay through the state of UT but was told they closed my case. I received a letter from the person that is owed the restitution and the person is ask for payments to be made to them directly every month or they will have me arrestede & sent to jail. I do not know what my options are. Should I respond to this threating letter and send payment directly to this person - Any advice would be appreciated - Since I plead no contest and took a deal I do not know what rights I have if any.

Re: Post conviction restitution

call the public defender's office in the county in which you we convicted. if that doesn't work, ask them who to call at the da's office and if they recommend that (some da's offices aren't so nice to defendants). i would not send any money directly to a complainant. you could hire a lawyer to be a go between and to establish a record of the payment. good luck.
