Legal Question in Criminal Law in Utah

I have have a question regarding federal gun laws. I am currently in drug court in Utah for 2 third degree felonies that will be expunged in January. At that point all that I will have on my record is a class A misdemeanor for possession that was plead down from a felony and a class B misdemeanor for drug related DUI. What I would like to know is if it is illegal for me to own and possess either a handgun or shotgun and if it is illegal if at some point in my life if I would be able to gain those rights back in order to use guns for hunting and recreational use?

If I understand your question correctly, you pled guilty to two 3rd degree felonies. In January, these felonies will be dismissed because you've completed druge court.

Unfortunately, because you've been convicted of felonies, under current federal law you are unable to possess a firearm that effects interstate commerce. i.e. a gun made in another state.

And equally unfortunate, there is currently no way in the federal system to restore these rights.

The nice things is that because you live in Utah, you can still vote. Put someone in office that will change these laws and restore all rights to people who have paid their debt.
