Legal Question in Military Law in Utah

Forced Contract Extension

I am currently one year away from

the end of my Marine Corps reserves

contract. My unit is being called to

active duty this August which will be

a year deployment. They are saying

that I will be forced to go on the

deployment and forced to sign a 3-

month extension to fulfill the year

deployment beyond my end of

contract. Can they really force me to

sign an extension?

Re: Forced Contract Extension

This is the "stop loss policy" type of analysis for extension of term. In sum, you are used at the dictates of the military. It is very difficult to get trained troops to a combat zone such as Iraq or Afghanistan. I believe it to be legal, you may wish to seek counsel to challenge it.

Good luck!!
