Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Utah

I am a dog trainer and a client paid $1700 to have me train their dog. The dog was left in my care and the owners were to get the dog every weekend and be part of the training.

Contract states training is 2 to 12 weeks and owner agrees to work withtheir dog. They left 1 bag of food and we did not herar from them until 7months later wanting there dog back or there money.

7 months an no contact. The dog is part of our family and we have fed, groome, and paid vet bills and shots. The owners only had the dog 1 day and brought to us for training.

They said they wee to busy over the summer and waiting for our phone call. We did attempt to calland text so they would be part of thr training. N othing.

What rights do we have as the dog was bought off craigslist and is not registered in there name.

They abandoned the dog. You may keep the dog. However, there is a question on whether you can retain the $1700. That will depend on the language of the contract.
