Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Utah

My mother-in-law died last year without a will. One of her children was chosen by the others to be executor. How long does she have to settle the estate and divide up the assets?

There is no specific time frame. The statute just says that the personal representative has a fiduciary duty to act reasonably. This does not mean that the PR can delay settling the estate, and if an inordinate amount of time goes by, you can petition the court to remove the PR and appoint another individual.
