I was employed at a company and signed a contract. the contract states that a year after I cannot work for another company doing the same kind of job and restricts me from working in the same area.Ihave an opportunity to work for a company that my boyfriend is starting that is the same kind of work. How does he have the right to claim area?

Restrictions on employment after termination are valid only when they are limited in time and limited in geographical area. To advise what you can and cannot do an attorney would need to review your contract.
