Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Virginia

I think our privacy has been violated

Is it legal for a Sheriff Deputy to disclose the information of a civil lawsuit regarding past due rent owed to a previous landlord to our current landlord? When I got home from work yesterday I was approached by our landlord who informed me that a deputy had been to visit to serve papers. He then informed me that he found out we were three months behind on rent at our previous address because he got the telephone number and name of our previous landlord and called him. Without asking us for that information, there was no way for him to find out unless that deputy disclosed that information to him.

Re: I think our privacy has been violated

there is nothing privileged about such information since the suit for rent is public record
