Legal Question in Consumer Law in Virginia

consumer ripoff

I had roto rooter come to the house to fix the gas hot water heater. They told me that it was the thermocouple which was $166 to do and i paid by check. I was told if it didn't work i wouldn't have to pay for it. Then they came out the next day and replaced the gas valve and i was told that if it didn't work i wouldn't have to pay for it. I then gave them a check for $368 because it was working. 24 hours later, the pilot light went out and I called them and they came out again, telling me they had no idea what was wrong with it, the pilot light lit but every time they put the cover on it it would go out. They turned it off, shut the gas off was suppose to get back to me today with an answer. here i sit, no answer, no hot water, the system is turned off and i have spent over $500 ...question...what are my options and can i stop payment on these checks...i'm at my wits end.

Re: consumer ripoff

Hopefully, by now, this company has made good on its promises to fix your gas hot water heater. If they have not

and your heater still has not been properly repaired and your checks have been cashed, then you should be demanding a refund, and if such is not remitted, then file your case in small claims court.
