Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Virginia

warrent in debt

i sold material to a home owner for THEM to do work at there house i did not do the work and had no aggrement/contract with them to do any of the work nor gave any invoice for services preformed i have a copy of the check they wrote me and on the check memo it states its for the new materials that i did in fact give them. 4 months later i get a warrant in debt notice for work that was not to code and needed to be redone for an amount that was $5500 dollars higher than what i charged for the materials that i sold them again i did not do any of the work and to the best of my knowledge there were no problems with the materials they purchased from me can me selling them materials make me responsable for work preformed by them or someone else?
