Legal Question in Criminal Law in Virginia

Hi

I live in N.Virginia and i am facing a Construction Fraud Case. I did a contract with some clients for painting and they gave me $500.00 for materials.. I purchased the materials the following day and was ready for our date to start. they called me and said the project will have to be put off due to them not closing on there home yet.. once closing was successful for them they contacted me and told me they are ready to start. I was in the middle of 2 projects when they called me back and told them i am still ready but they would have to wait a week for me to start due to other projects i was doing. they didnt want to wait and wanted there money back and not there materials. they went and pressed charges on me and now im facing contruction fraud. I dont know what to do i have even paid them there $500 back in a certified check because i didnt want they to think i was trying to fraud them but they already pressed charges.. what can happen to me.. and if i got convicted how much time will they give me. i have alot of clients that i did work for and never fraud them. i have a family that depends on me.. please give me some advice.

Better get a competent criminal defense counsel to represent you before this

situation "snowballs any further", so to speak, which is likely what

will happen if you continue to try to represent yourself (pro se) in this matter.
