Legal Question in DUI Law in Virginia

DUI Laws in Virginia

I was recently told the state of Virginia imposed a new law July 1, 2007 for DUI. Can you tell me where I might find the state laws. '' The consequences of a DUI?''

Re: DUI Laws in Virginia

Yes, as of July 1, 2007, new, so-called civil fines have been attached to all traffic offenses which are crimes under the Criminal Code of Virginia such as DUI, Reckless Driving and DWS (Driving While Suspended)--all Class 1 misdemeanors. These additional fines for convictions of these offenses can in effect add up to several thousand dollars extra to the monetary fines and court costs which have traditionally been imposed on individuals convicted of these offenses prior to July 1, 2007.
