How to obtain own police record
what is a police record and how can I obtain mine? Is it the same thing as a criminal record?

Yes, the two in effect are the same. You could check your record of convictions with the local criminal court in the area where you live. You could also direct a Freedom of Information Act request (F.O.I.A.)to the FBI for a release of all
records that they may have on you(which, assuming that you have no federal convictions, would be a simply a compilation of your state offense convictions.)
