Legal Question in DUI Law in Virginia

Wedding guest DUI or accident - Am I liable?

I am debating obtaining a banquet ABC license for my wedding. ABC says that I am liable should any guest leave my wedding drunk, but they couldn't explain what I am liable for. Can I be sued if a wedding guest gets in an accident, gets injured, etc.? What about if they just get a DUI but no one gets hurt - am I liable for anything then?

What are my risks?

Thanks.

Re: Wedding guest DUI or accident - Am I liable?

you need the advise of an insurance lawyer not a criminal defense lawyer. Withan ABC license you fall under the "dram shop" acts where owners of bars become civilly liable for serving persons who they know to be impaired. The burden is quite low and I would commit malpractise in trying to explain it to you. Yes you can be liable for injuries these people you serve may cause. What the limits are I have no idea.

Good luck
