Legal Question in Entertainment Law in Virginia

how to ge my lyrics to music producers and agents

i recently sent some lyrics to a music company but they came back unopened. i later learned they would have to come from an attorney, music agent or manager. i would like to know how to go about retaining an attorney to help me submit my lyrics to the right people. i would also like to know how much of a retainer would be needed. one company did send me a contract that i did not sign because they wanted $380 for the master recording. i was told never pay money to have my lyrics published. can u help me.

I can't help you myself (since our firm does mostly film, TV and computer games), but I am a member of the Entertainment and Sports Law Forum (part of the American Bar Association), which has its own listserv. If you provide me with contact details, I'll happily post your inquiry there.
