Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

I'm on child support, my son is 2 1/2 years old but just recently as of last month we just doin out through paternity that he is my child but from the time he was born his mother has always told me he wasn't my child because she messed around during our relationship so I never got to visit him because she said he wasn't my child so now that he is almost 3 she got the paternity test done to prove to me he wasn't well the test from the courts said he is my son now I'm on child support with back child support as well my question to you is, why should I have to pay back child support if she said he wasn't mine and there was another guy involved if I knew 100% he was mine in the beginning I would of supported him and there wouldn't be any back child support now I got to pay back child support for the times I was told he wasn't mine my second question is can I appeal back child support? Thanks I hope you understand everything clearly

The court in the situation described may order back support to the date that the child's mother filed her petition for support with the court but not for any

period predating such filing nor back to the date that the child was born.
