Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

How do I collect spousal support in Va?

Dec 2006 my husband was arrested and removed from our house, brandishing a fire arm and a class 6 felony for possession of a fire arm while being a convicted felon.

Feb 2007 in court it was ordered he pay child and spousal support. He admitted to the judge at that time that he had committed adultery and was living with his girlfriend.

DCSE collected for 1 year then he was fired from his job for stealing.

March 2008 all support stopped, I had to notify DCSE everytime he quit a job or was working under the table. He stayed one step ahead of them.

Nov 2008 I had filed a show cause and DCSE told the judge he had paid it in full that morning. It was removed from the docket. He did not pay in full, he was in arrears of almost $6000. I rec'd $1934. His is still in arrears of over $4000.

Now our child is 18 so DCSE has closed the case with arrearage still owed.

The spousal support order was a permanent order, so now that DCSE will not help collect it, how do I go about collecting the spousal support?Legal Aid told me they only assist if I have been served not if I need to file anything.

I have no money for an attorney so I need to do this by myself.

How do I go about this????

Thank you for any advice.
