Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

Divorce circumstance

I have a child with a man we married in 97 while he was in the navy, he went back to another state to finish his schooling and cheated on me about two months later at the time i was staying with my parents. I ended the relationship so to say, he got licked out of the military soon after went back to his home state. That was over three years ago we haven;t seen him since and we are still married but living separately. I still live with my parents and take care of our son who is 5 now by myself. I want a divorce but money has been short how do i go about getting a quick and cheap divorce. We have no property together or anything like that we have never lived together while married. We just have a son together. We hear from him in a blue moon. What can i do?

Re: Divorce circumstance

Call your local county courthouse and tell them you would like to file a petition for dissolution of your marriage and you would like to request child support (ask for it even if you don't think he'll pay. You deserve it and with a court order you will be able to get the Child Support Enforcement agency involved and they will garnish his wages to collect the child support). The local courthouse clerk should give you an example of a petition to file for a divorce. The clerk can also advise you of the procedure involved. If you need help, give me a call at my office and I'll give you more detailed instructions without a fee. 301-652-0663 or 703-598-9220.
