Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

How much can I expect to pay in child support?

Wife and I married 8 years. During those 8 years, we lived apart and separately for 4. She worked and I paid her $700/month child support. (Non court ordered-mutal agreement). We've separated again and now she wants (and is trying for) alimony. When we lived together this last time (for 6 weeks) I paid her $2000 a month for household expenses. She thinks that's a precedent and that she is entitled to this amount in child support. I say that this amount was for common household expenses and does not set a precendent for child support. I live in Virginia, what I can reasonably expect a judge to do at the hearing? Will he go by state guidelines? Is there a chance she gets alimony? My salary is 100K/yr and she doesn't work at the present. What can I reasonably expect my monthly support payments to be?

Yes, the judge will follow the state guidelines in determining the amount of child support that you should pay. See Va. Code Sec. 20-108.2
