How can I find out if I am divorced

My finace has not seen his wife in over 5 years. He was over seas when she skipped town. He has no idea where she is how can he file for a divorce or can he find out if she already filed?

Check the circuit court in the county in which she last lived or the county in which they lived together to see if she ever filed and was granted a divorce. If not, he can still file for divorce, but he will have to go through more procedures just to make sure that she has proper notice that there is a Bill of Complaint for divorce pending in court. This may involve publishing a notice in a local newspaper. If you don't know how to locate her you can still get a divorce but you may need a lawyer to make sure the divorce provided her with constitutional notice.

I hope this helps. Please call me at 703-968-3974 if you have further questions.
