If my husband files for divorce in Florida and I live in Virginia, would I be required to go to Florida to contest the divorce over marital property?

That depends on the facts of your case. If you and he last lived together in Florida, or if for any other reason Florida has jurisdiction over you personally, you may have to go there to contest his claims to marital property. But if Florida does not have personal jurisdiction over you, it is likely that he can only get the marriage ended, with nothing being done about property.
