Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

Retainer Fee

I selected my best friends attorney to reprsent me. I gave in a $2500 retainer fee, but have only talked to him for 30 minutes. I finally told him his services were no longer needed and I asked him to mail me any money left over from the $2500. My first consultation was free and I never signed any agreements. Am I entitled to any of my retainer fee back?

Re: Retainer Fee

An attorney may only charge for services performed and you are absolutely entitled to a refund if you were overbilled. Please contact the attorney and request the same. If such is not fruitful you may contact the Virginia State Bar for further assistance.
