Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

My son will be 2 in May, his real father has had nothing to do with him, he has harrrassed me, assaulted me and not been there emotionally or financially. I have been in a relationship since i was 4 months pregnant, and have now been married for a year and a half. I want my husband to adopt my son. What do I do?
