Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Virginia

Banned From Campus

Okay, so I have ''ex'' drama. Basically she attends a private college. We had mutual friends on campus -- many of which I still hang out with. She recently went to the dean, accusing me of harassment and not feeling safe. They banned me for 7 days, and now I received a certified letter from the college (have not picked it up), which I assume is an official notice to not come back ever.

I do not go near my ex's room or hall, and I only hang out with my friends on campus. So what happens if I do not pick up the letter?

Also do I have grounds to sue for slander, as she has greatly harmed my reputation around campus? I have had friends there for 3+ years, and now word is going around that I am banned as she does not feel safe.

Thank you.

Re: Banned From Campus

You could be expelled from the college irrespective of whether or not you pick up the official notice of this action. But, if you wish to remain at the college, there must be a way to file a grievance to contest the college's action and to have the opportunity to place before a neutral tribunal your evidence rebutting the college's claims and that of their chief complaining witness.
