Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Virginia

I left my car at a auto shop to be looked at on 5/6. I was told I would get a call that following day, which would have been a Friday. Ever since I left my car at the shop no one has been there, no one is answering the phone, and I have no way of getting my car back. Today is now 5/17 and the car has been there for over a week with no word from anyone. What should I do? I was told by a police officer that I had to hire an attorney? I need my car back!
