Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Virginia

Someone owes me $2000 from a diamond that I was purchasing for an engagement ring. He had me mail him a check and never got me the diamond. He was a referral from the owner of my company. He has told me for the past 7 months that he is refunding my money. He finially sent me three checks. One for $2,000 which he claimed that I could deposit immediately, and two more for $450. I was supposed to wait a few weeks for the two $450 checks. The $2000 check bounced. I then deposited the two $450 checks and those went through. He now owes me the $2000. He lives in Chesapeake, VA, I live in Pennsylvania. How can get this money back? I have a long record of emails to and from this guy and accounts from the check that I wrote to him. Thanks!

Next time you're in the Chesapeake, Virginia area, in the next few months, make it a point to stop by the local small claims court to file your case against this defaulter on his promises to pay you.(Williamsburg is always a nice place to visit in the spring time and not that far from Chesapeake.)
