Legal Question in Insurance Law in Virginia

Insurance Termination...without notice?

My employer recently cancelled health insurance coverage for two coworkers...without notification of any kind. Is this legal? They eventually got letters.....informing them of the mistake, but b/c of it...one my coworkers may have to pay for the medical expenses incurred when he had a baby....during the outage...

Is this legal? Can an employer cancel medical benefits to an employee without any notification?

Thanks

Re: Insurance Termination...without notice?

In the Commonwealth of Virginia, a so-called employment-at-will jurisdiction, employers have no obligation to provide their employees with medical insurance and, therefore, if they're voluntarily providing such insurance, they can surely cancel it at any time, for any reason, and under any circumstances they wish, including a circumstance where no notification is provided to the affected employees.
