Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Virginia

Garnishment

I received a garnishment on my checking and savings account, due to a reportedly unpaid rent from over 8 years ago. Never during the time period until today was I notified about this unpaid debt. Is there any limitations on time or circumstances limiting actions due to the lack of notification on this issue.

Re: Garnishment

Yes, there could be a statute of limitations of five years that could possibly apply to this situation, and you should arrange for a consultation

with an attorney to see whether this or other defenses which you might have could be utilized to

remove this garnishment on your accounts.

If so, you would need to contact the court which issued this summons in garnishment for a hearing on the matter.
