Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Virginia

Tenant's rights concerning

What are our rights as tenants concerning the ''showing'' of our home by agents? Our lease is up June 30, today is May 17. We were surprised by the listing of our home, and do not want to purchase it, therefore do not have a problem helping. The problem we are having is the nonstop ''pop-in's'' that we directly told were not to happen, along with the total rudeness of the potential buyers with appointments. I have been accused of not being ''able to afford it,'' told to change dinner plans, told to take my children out of the bathtub because people were here to look (pop-ins), etc. What rights to I have about Not showing it, or limiting it? It is not in our lease, and to be frank, my biggest goal in life is to get out of this dump. Thoughtfully, K.--PS. The owners are not disclosing major faults with the home, and we keep getting asked why we are not buying the home. (It needs $60K worth of work that we know about from living here, and I hate lying.) Thanks.

Re: Tenant's rights concerning

You had better read the lease again; there's probably a provision that provides for reasonable showing of the property to prospective buyers.

If you have only a month and a half left on the lease, realistically, nothing in regard to the showing of the property is likely to be litigated. Take a deep breath, and smooth on.
