Legal Question in Traffic Law in Virginia

Disregarding a stop sign

I was making a right hand turn, at an intersection with a newly opened parkway on my left was not speeding nor driving wreckless. I just made a very quick stop (enough to look both ways and see the police officers 25 yds up the road) and continued to turn right. I was stopped and charged with disregarding a stop sign. Do I have a shot at pleading not quilty or should I plead guilty for failing to stop in hope of leniancy? In over 22 years of driving this is my first ticket of any kind.

Re: Disregarding a stop sign

If you did not make a complete stop at the stop sign but made what might have been termed a "Hollywood" type stop, as it used to be called in some quarters back in Mid 20th Century America, and which the cops were apparently close enough to clearly observe, I see no point in your attempting to plead not guilty, if the "coppers got u with the goods", so to speak, as a Damon Runyon character from another era might have opined.
