dmv judgment

my question is my car was in awreck i was a passenger in 1984 in va i was a moving to nc at the time but still was living in va , a judgement was place on me for no insurance with out me having any knowledge of this,i have disputed this over the years but have let it rest until now .i have had a nc licnse for 20 years until now ,i can not renew them because of this,how long should this stay on my record and what can i do ,any help is welcome

A judgment filed in a Virginia circuit court is good for 20 years and at the option of the judgment creditor may be renewed for another 20.

As for your options, unfortunately, they would appear limited to one(if you hope to renew your license anytime soon): pay the judgment.
