Legal Question in Traffic Law in Virginia

Failure to yield for emergency vehicle

I got a first ever traffic ticket for an "failure to yield for emergency vehicle" in Mecklenburg. It was out of ignorance of what VA police cars and lights looked like and it was very dark. I didn't do anything wrong nor was there an emergency. The police officer just saw me stopped on the side of the road for a moment and wanted to know if something was wrong. My fine is 165$. Should I just pay it or at least go to court and try to get the fines reduced or case dimissed through traffic school or other. I know I'm guilty and I'll never do it again so please don't judge me on that.

ps. How much is the court fee?

You should contest this ticket (in my opinion) even if it means hiring an attorney

to represent you if for whatever reason you can't do it on your own.
