Legal Question in Traffic Law in Virginia

My friend was pulled over a few weeks ago. The police officer stated that her inspection sticker was illegal. She did not know this because this was her mother's car. Her mother took the car to a mechanic to get the inspection sticker. The police officer gave her a ticket for Illegal inspection sticker which is a misdemeanor charge. Since then, my friend has sold the car and got another car. Should she obtain a lawyer for when she goes to court? And what charges does she face?

There seems to be some confusion in the way this question is worded as to whether your friend actually owned this vehicle or was merely borrowing it from her mother when she was ticketed which could make a difference with

respect to how this charge is disposed of. (If she was merely borrowing it, then

obviously, it was unlikely that she would've had the authority to later sell it.)

I would advise her to a least consult with a local attorney who handles

traffic matters and who should be able to advise her as to as suitable

course of action for her to follow in this particular matter.
